Social and Health Policy Research Institute
Delivery of health care and other social welfare programmes to the rural areas and to the poor in urban slums continues to be a challenge. As the state is increasingly withdrawing from the health care and social welfare sectors leaving the field for Non-governmental organizations and corporate sector (especially in health care), health care is getting to be beyond the reach of the poor and marginalized.
While the middle and upper classes have the wherewithal to make use of expensive health care provided by the corporate sector, the poor and marginalized perforce have to depend on public services which suffers from poor quality, corruption and lack of qualified medical personnel. In order to come up with innovative solutions to such seemingly intractable problems faced by the poor and marginalized, research into the social, economic, environmental and organizational problems with a multi-disciplinary perspective seems to be the need of the hour.
We would like to set up such a research institution that would enable us to come up with social, economic and health policy innovations and optimal programme delivery strategies, not only for NGOs such as ours as well as to the Government.
If you believe in this effort of ours you may wish to support it.
