Dr S Gunasekaran heads ACOSA. Dr S. Gunasekaran has international development experience having worked in the rural areas of South India, USA, and Southeast Asia in various capacities related to education, health and social development. Before taking over as Head of ACOSA, he was Dean, School of Social Sciences and International Studies of Pondicherry University, a leading federally funded university in India.
Being a son of poor elementary school teachers working in one of the remote villages of Tamil Nadu who were very devout Christians, he enjoyed the largess of God's love and gift. By the Grace of our Lord, he was able to receive high quality graduate education from some of the leading universities in the USA (M.S. in biostatistics from the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Ph.D. in sociology from University of Hawaii, Honolulu). He also had a very successful professional career having been associated with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, East West Center, Honolulu and Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore. After returning to India in 1992, he was appointed as Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology and later as Dean, School of Social Sciences and International Studies of Pondicherry University. During his tenure in Pondicherry University, he had also served as its Registrar and Dean, College Development Council, the two key administrative positions in running the University. Without any godfather to prop him up and being a member of the minority Christian community, his professional career and growth can entirely be attributed to abundance of God's love and reward for his unflinching faith
"In Thee will I glory and rejoice all the day, but for myself I will glory in nothing but in my infirmities." (2 Cor. 12:5)
