Community College

Working in the target area and during this year in the slums of Chennai, an observation that sticks out like a sore thumb is that a large part of the youth in these communities are ill equipped to participate profitably in the industrial and service sectors which would enable them to receive higher wages and provide a sure route to escape from the clutches of persistent poverty and associated social and economic deprivation.

We would like to stress that post-higher secondary education by way of enrollment in professional and arts colleges and other skill training institutions such as community colleges, polytechnics and industrial training institutions is an imperative need. Only by facilitating and supporting enrollment of youth in such institutions, they would be able to achieve social and economic mobility.

This would increase the stakes for them in the system resulting in increased social stability and harmony. Our efforts in the upcoming years will be to set up such an institution in the area with multiple objectives, which eventually can be converted into community colleges, polytechnics, and professional colleges and ultimately a university that would cater specially to the needs of the bright and talented among the poor and marginalized. We hope that our vision can be realized in the not too distant future.

If you believe in this effort of ours you may wish to support it.
